Developed in-house by the Directorate General of Information Systems (DGIS), Prakshepan features collaboration with several national agencies, including the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) and the National Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasting (NCMRWF). By integrating over 20 years of geospatial and weather data, the system can predict landslides, floods, and avalanches, significantly improving response times and resource allocation in disaster scenarios.

The AI/ML model powering Prakshepan is trained through a comprehensive approach using over 300 decision trees. It provides precise 3–7 day forecasts for specific locations, using a user-friendly Geographic Information System (GIS) interface. In its first phase, it supports critical predictions for regions like Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, and Assam.

Expanding Operational Capabilities

Prakshepan’s capabilities extend beyond immediate disaster predictions. The system also facilitates seasonal and long-term disaster assessments, route optimization, logistics planning, infrastructure safety evaluations, and predictive maintenance. By incorporating legacy disaster reports, it offers improved future modeling—essential for mitigating the impact of natural disasters on military operations and civilian communities alike.

By developing such systems, the military not only enhances its operational readiness but also contributes to broader civil support initiatives, showcasing the integrated role AI can play in both defense and humanitarian contexts.
