(BPRW) RECORDING ACADEMY® HONORS PRESENTED BY THE BLACK MUSIC COLLECTIVE RETURNS, CELEBRATING GRAMMY® AWARD-WINNING ICONS PHARRELL WILLIAMS, BRANDY AND KIRK FRANKLIN
GRAMMY® WEEK EVENT TO BE HELD THURSDAY, JAN. 29, 2026, AT THE FAIRMONT CENTURY PLAZA
SANTA MONICA, CALIF. – The Recording Academy®’s Black Music Collective (BMC) will host the fourth annual Recording Academy Honors on Thursday, Jan. 29, 2026, recognizing the illustrious careers of music legends Pharrell Williams, Brandy, and Kirk Franklin. Scheduled just days before Music’s Biggest Night®, this renowned event will take place at the Fairmont Century Plaza.
At the event, Pharrell Williams will receive the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award, celebrating not only his musical achievements but also his entrepreneurial ventures, philanthropic contributions, and his widespread cultural influence. Brandy and Kirk Franklin will both be honored with the Black Music Icon Award, which acknowledges extraordinary Black music creators whose artistry and service have notably shaped the music industry and inspired countless artists globally.
The BMC has consistently championed the efforts of Black music creators and industry leaders since its inception. Previous recipients of this remarkable honor include icons like Alicia Keys, Dr. Dre, and Lil Wayne. In addition to recognizing achievements, the BMC is committed to cultivating the next generation of talent, as evidenced by its scholarship grants totaling $85,000 last year, aimed at supporting Black college students and HBCU music programs.
“Pharrell, Brandy, and Kirk are true visionaries and masters of their craft,” said Harvey Mason jr., CEO of the Recording Academy. “Their artistry transcends genres and shapes culture, inspiring future generations of artists. I am thrilled to join the Black Music Collective in honoring these three remarkable stars and celebrating their incredible contributions to the music industry.”
Pharrell Williams, a 13-time GRAMMY Award winner and Academy Award nominee, has profoundly affected the music industry as a musician, filmmaker, and entrepreneur. This year, he produced Let God Sort Em Out, marking Clipse’s anticipated return, which scored five GRAMMY nominations. Pharrell’s critically acclaimed animated biopic, PIECE BY PIECE, released in 2024, showcases original tracks alongside his extensive music catalog. Through his nonprofit, YELLOW, founded in 2019, and other initiatives like Black Ambition, Pharrell is dedicated to leveling the playing field for youth and minority entrepreneurs.
Multi-platinum selling artist Brandy, often hailed as “the Vocal Bible,” gained fame in the ’90s with her self-titled debut album and starring role in Moesha. With five-time-platinum records and an array of accolades, she has remained an influential figure in pop music history. Her recent works, including Christmas With Brandy and her soon-to-be-released memoir PHASES, further highlight her artistry and evolution. Brandy continues to pursue acting endeavors, set to appear in various upcoming film projects.
Kirk Franklin is a groundbreaking artist, songwriter, and producer, recognized with 20 GRAMMY Awards for his innovative fusion of gospel, R&B, hip-hop, and pop. His recent album, Father’s Day, produced the chart-topping single “All Things,” and he has consistently inspired audiences through his uplifting music and teachings. Franklin’s involvement in media extends beyond music; he launched his original series Den of Kings, boasting impressive viewership. With a dedication to mentorship and advocacy, he supports emerging talents and charitable organizations, reinforcing his commitment to his faith and community.
Originally set to be recognized in 2025, Franklin’s honor was postponed due to the Recording Academy’s decision to condense GRAMMY Week programming in the wake of response measures to the Los Angeles wildfires.
This year, MVD Inc. returns as the production partner for the Recording Academy Honors, with Adam Blackstone serving as the evening’s music supervisor. Guests will enjoy specialty cocktails provided by PATRÓN Tequila at this star-studded celebration.
