Celebrating Diversity: Call for Entries for Black History Month Exhibition in Millbrook

The City of Millbrook invites local artists to participate in a vibrant celebration of Black culture and heritage through the 2nd Annual Black History Month Art Exhibition. This exciting opportunity not only highlights the contributions of African Americans but also encourages artistic expression and community involvement.

A Platform for Creative Voices

The Millbrook Art Mill Gallery, located at 3560 Grandview Road, Millbrook, AL 36054, serves as the backdrop for this unique exhibition. By showcasing visual artwork that reflects the rich tapestry of Black experiences, the event aims to create a dialogue around diversity and creativity. Both emerging and established artists are encouraged to submit their work, making this a welcoming space for all backgrounds and artistic styles.

Submission Guidelines: What Artists Need to Know

Artists are permitted to submit two entries each, showcasing their creativity across various mediums. Accepted forms of expression include:

  • Painting/Drawing/Mixed Media
  • Photography
  • Graphic Art
  • Ceramics
  • Printmaking
  • Fashion Design and Apparel
  • 3D Art (such as paper-mâché, sculpture, quilting, jewelry, etc.)

These guidelines encourage a diverse range of submissions that celebrate the beauty and complexity of African American culture.

Presentation Requirements: Ensuring Quality and Professionalism

To maintain a high standard for the exhibition, all artwork must be delivered ready to hang or display. This means:

  • Frames should be well-constructed, and any glass should be free of smudges.
  • Works not properly wired for hanging will not be accepted.

Artists must also attach essential details to the back of each submission, including:

  • Artist’s Name
  • Title of the Piece
  • Medium
  • Price or NFS (Not For Sale)

By ensuring that artwork is professionally presented, the exhibition can effectively showcase the talents of participating artists.

This means artists receive 80% of the sale price upon the exhibit’s conclusion. It is crucial to note that all artwork must remain on display until the exhibition concludes, providing maximum exposure to potential buyers.

Liability and Care of Artwork

While reasonable care will be taken with works displayed in the exhibition, the gallery cannot accept liability for any loss or damage incurred during the event. Additionally, all submitted works will undergo a screening process, and the organizers reserve the right to refuse any pieces considered objectionable or offensive.
