SCLC Unveils Complete Lineup for MLK Unity Day in Tuscaloosa

The Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) – Tuscaloosa County Chapter is gearing up for a series of exciting events on Monday, January 19, in celebration of its annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Unity Day. These events serve as a heartfelt tribute to Dr. King’s enduring legacy, focusing on themes of unity, community service, and ongoing social progress.

MLK Unity Day Breakfast

The day kicks off with the MLK Unity Day Breakfast at 8 a.m. held at Beulah Baptist Church, which can be found at 3100 25th Street in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. This gathering is not just a meal; it’s an opportunity for community members to come together, reflect, and inspire each other in the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Tickets for the breakfast are available at $25.00 for general seating, while VIP tables can be reserved for $250.00. Given the limited availability of tables, quick action is advisable for those interested in attending, with tickets available through SCLC members.

MLK Unity March

Following the breakfast, the annual MLK Unity March is set to commence from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary School located at 2430 Martin Luther King Blvd, Tuscaloosa, AL 35401. Participants are encouraged to gather in front of the school at 11:30 a.m. This march is particularly aimed at honoring Dr. King’s impactful legacy, while simultaneously fostering a collective sense of purpose and unity within the community. As participants walk from the school to Tuscaloosa City Hall, they are reminded of the strides made toward civil rights and the ongoing journey toward justice and equality.

Mass Rally

The day’s events culminate in a mass rally scheduled for 5 p.m. at the historic First African Baptist Church, located at 2621 Stillman Blvd, Tuscaloosa, AL 35401. This rally serves as a powerful platform for community voices to be heard, celebrating not just the life and legacy of Dr. King, but also the ongoing efforts toward social justice and equality for all.
