Cape Verde’s Tourism Boom: Major Airport Upgrades and New Routes Set to Attract Visitors
Cape Verde, an archipelago off the northwest coast of Africa, is on the brink of a significant transformation in its tourism landscape. Thanks to the completion of a £69.3 million airport upgrade by VINCI Airports, the islands are preparing to welcome a new wave of tourists. VINCI Airports is tasked with managing all seven airports in Cape Verde, including those on the islands of Praia, Sal, São Vicente, Boa Vista, São Nicolau, São Filipe, and Maio. Runway and Terminal Enhancements
Significant improvements have already been made to runways at Sal and São Nicolau airports. These upgrades will allow larger aircraft to land, accommodating more international flights. Additionally, a modernized terminal will provide travelers with state-of-the-art facilities, including self-check-in counters. This focus on enhanced infrastructure is designed to streamline the travel experience, making air travel to and from Cape Verde more efficient.
Increasing Capacity for Future Growth
Over the next three years, these airports will undergo further expansions to increase capacity. Notably, plans to add a shopping area and extend the runway at Boa Vista aim to bolster the island’s ability to handle an influx of tourists. This expansion is particularly strategic, as it addresses the anticipated surge in demand during peak travel seasons, especially in winter when many Brits seek a warmer escape.
Air Connectivity Boost
The ease of access to Cape Verde is set to improve significantly. In November, easyJet announced a new route from Bristol Airport to Sal, which will commence on May 1 this year. This addition complements existing flights from London Gatwick and Manchester airports, enhancing connectivity for UK travelers. TUI is also expanding its offerings with new routes linking East Midlands Airport to Boa Vista, alongside existing services from London Gatwick and Bristol Airport to Sal.
