Three Decades On: A Couple’s Heartfelt Journey to Their First Child

Segun and Kemi Omotinugbon, devoted members of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM), have shared a deeply emotional story that resonates with countless couples facing similar challenges. Their journey towards welcoming their first child, after more than 30 years of marriage, is a profound testament to faith, resilience, and unwavering hope.

During a testimony session at MFM’s monthly prayer program, Power Must Change Hands, held at the church’s international headquarters along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State, the couple recalled their remarkable experiences. The atmosphere was charged with emotion as they spoke, drawing tears and applause from the many worshippers in attendance, who found inspiration in their story.

Kemi began by reflecting on their journey to parenthood, marked by years filled with both emotional and physical challenges. For them, the road was anything but straightforward. With the ache of longing in her voice, Kemi detailed the trials they endured, which included several medical interventions and heartbreaking disappointments. The couple had faced the agony of two unsuccessful in-vitro fertilization (IVF) procedures, leading to feelings of hopelessness.

The breakthrough finally came when Kemi conceived in May 2024 at the age of 56. The realization of her pregnancy brought waves of joy mixed with apprehension, especially considering her age and the challenges it could pose. She described the pregnancy as a “difficult journey,” but emphasized how vital the emotional and spiritual support from their church family was in helping her navigate this life-changing experience. This sense of community was instrumental in sustaining her hope and strength during the most challenging moments.

On January 1, 2025, just before her 57th birthday, Kemi welcomed a baby boy into the world—a living testament to their enduring faith. “We got married in July 1994; since then, we’ve been believing God for the fruit of the womb. It has been a challenging time, but God manifested Himself in the end,” Kemi shared with heartfelt gratitude.

Her testimony continued with vivid memories of the many trials they faced. “We went through some treatments, including two failed IVFs, and endured many prayers, including corridor prayers with the General Overseer, who was very supportive and guided us prayerfully. By God’s grace, in May 2024, I conceived,” she recounted, underlining the importance of perseverance through prayer and faith in their journey.

Kemi spoke candidly about her struggles throughout the pregnancy, particularly after suffering an attack on her leg that raised concerns about her ability to carry the pregnancy safely. Yet, she emphasized how her relentless prayers and the support of her community helped her to overcome those challenges, leading to the joyful moment when she finally held her child in her arms.

Her story portrays a journey filled with pain, tears, and ultimately, joy. “Whenever I saw people testify, I asked God, ‘When will I testify?’ I believed God had not called me to shame, and indeed, God did it,” she expressed, encapsulating the essence of hope that guided them through their hardest times.

Their remarkable testimony not only serves as an inspiration to those who may be facing similar struggles but also highlights the profound impact of community support and faith in overcoming seemingly insurmountable challenges. As they continue to share their story, Segun and Kemi exemplify the power of belief and the importance of never giving up, bringing hope to many who find themselves on a similar path.
