Celebrating Global Black Leadership: The 2026 Adinkra Fellowship Cohort
The Adinkra Fellowship has unveiled its 2026 Cohort—a remarkable group of twenty exceptional Black leaders selected from a staggering 1,257 applications across 84 countries. This diverse assembly not only showcases the talent found within the global Black community but also highlights the urgent work and impactful leadership required in today’s world.
A Diverse Collection of Changemakers
The Fellows represent a rich tapestry of professions including technology, governance, education, entrepreneurship, and community development. Their work demonstrates the multifaceted nature of modern leadership and underscores the varied pathways through which Black leaders are contributing to society. Each Fellow brings a unique perspective, enriching the Fellowship with their experiences and insights from around the globe.
Rigorous Selection Process
The selection of the 2026 Fellows was no small feat. A highly competitive, merit-based process ensured that only the most committed and capable individuals made the cut. This year, the selection committee sought leaders recognized not just for their professional accomplishments, but also for their extraordinary ability to mobilize communities and enact significant change. By emphasizing impact, integrity, and service, the Adinkra Fellowship aligns its mission with the overarching goal of fostering transformation in societies worldwide.
Shaping Future Leadership
Speaking on behalf of the Fellowship’s co-founders, Richard Seshie articulated the vision behind the program: “This cohort represents exactly why we created the Adinkra Fellowship. This is about shaping the future of Black leadership, together, across borders—at a time when global leadership is being redefined.” This sentiment not only captures the essence of the Fellowship but also reflects the collaborative spirit required to face contemporary global challenges.
An Immersive Learning Experience
To foster deeper cross-continental relationships, the 2026 program will convene in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, from February 12 to 15, 2026. This in-person immersion promises high-level dialogues, cultural engagements, and collaborative projects tailored to enrich the Fellows’ experiences. Participants will not only learn from one another but also ground their leadership practices in the lived realities of African contexts, enhancing their understanding of the complexities and nuances that shape their work.
Judging with Integrity
The selection process’s integrity was upheld by a distinguished jury composed largely of media professionals. Their diverse backgrounds ensured independence, rigor, and credibility in evaluating the applications. This careful scrutiny fosters trust in the Fellowship’s recognition of talent, allowing for a celebration of excellence that resonates within the broader community.
Honoring Exceptional Individuals
In addition to selecting the new cohort, the Adinkra Fellowship will also recognize individuals with Special Honors for Career Achievement and Outstanding Black Leadership. These accolades celebrate those whose dedication and influence have opened doors for Black excellence worldwide, spotlighting the importance of role models in the ongoing pursuit of equity and justice.
A Global Mission
The Adinkra Fellowship’s mission extends far beyond its selections; it aims to unite the global Black community through leadership, connection, and elevation of excellence. With initiatives that span across 84 countries, the Fellowship serves as a powerful network, continually striving to cultivate leaders capable of tackling the challenges faced globally.
