“Our Roots Reach Further: 1776 to Tomorrow”
Among the highlights is the series entitled “Our Roots Reach Further: 1776 to Tomorrow,” located at the Cecil B. Moore Library. This specially curated program focuses on Black history and culture, featuring an array of interactive workshops that encompass storytelling, innovation, healing, and creative expression. Special Storytime with Jamilah Thompkins-Bigelow
Mark your calendars for Saturday, February 7, when author Jamilah Thompkins-Bigelow leads a special storytime at 11 a.m. featuring her book “Abdul’s Story.” This reading emphasizes themes of imagination and representation in children’s literature, making it a perfect opportunity for young readers to connect with diverse narratives. Later that afternoon, at 1 p.m., artist Doriana Diaz will host “Collage as Healing for Black History Month,” an art workshop that encourages participants to explore reflection and creativity through collage-making and bookbinding.
Interactive STEM Programs
The celebration of Black history doesn’t stop at the arts. On Thursday, February 12, at 3:30 p.m., participate in the Black Inventors Builders Lab, an interactive program that spotlights Black innovators through hands-on activities. Participants will learn about groundbreaking inventions while engaging in activities that spark innovation and creativity. Another special STEM edition of the Builders Lab will be held on Thursday, February 19, also at 3:30 p.m., focusing on the importance of STEM education in the Black community.
